A Brockville man charged on the weekend in connection with the stabbing of a dog in a dispute over french fries was already facing impaired driving charges after an e-bike collision the night before, police say.

Officers were called at 1:51 p.m. Saturday to a chip wagon in the Giant Tiger parking lot after a man attacked a dog.

Investigators learned that a chip-truck worker threw out some french fries for two dogs in the area. While a smaller dog was getting its share, a larger dog started nipping at the small dog.

The owner of the small dog pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the larger dog “numerous times,” said police.

The dog was stitched up at the animal hospital and is in stable condition.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and was charged with injuring an animal and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

On Friday, at 8:49 p.m., officers went to a north-end intersection where the same suspect had lost control of his e-bike and collided with the stop sign, said police.

He was arrested and charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide breath samples.
