Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne was in Ottawa on Friday to announce $37 million in funding ahead of the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.
Funding includes $25 million to upgrade existing local infrastructure projects, $7 million to help communities celebrate the historic year, and $5 million for youth programs.
“As we prepare to celebrate Canada’s and Ontario’s 150th birthday, let’s take pride in all that we have achieved and look forward with a renewed sense of purpose to the work that we have not yet done,” Wynne said during an announcement at the National Art Gallery.
In addition, Ottawa will also benefit from $9 million in funding as the capital prepares to host 2017 celebrations.
Mayor Jim Watson thanked the premier for the financial support saying “this is going to make a huge difference, it’s going to attract even more visitors to our province, specifically to our city.”
