City of Ottawa crews were out Tuesday morning to put up chainlink fencing to close off the Ontario side of the aging Prince of Wales railway bridge.
Council voted two weeks ago to spend $250,000 to block access to the picturesque, but neglected bridge.
Mayor Jim Watson said at the time it was a liability issue and that he was tired of being sued by people injured on city property, although there were no registered suits regarding the bridge.
The city said it would cost about $10 million to restore the bridge.
The decision prompted protests and claims from some groups that there was a better way to ensure safety on the structure.
