Ottawa’s hunting, fishing and camping crowd proved you don’t need to release a new iPhone to generate opening day excitement.
Thousands of people, some of them camping overnight, turned out for Thursday’s grand opening of the Cabela’s World Foremost Outfitter superstore at the Tanger Mall in Kanata Thursday.
The 70,000-square-foot megastore features hunting, fishing and camping gear, as well as an indoor archery range to test its hunting and sporting bows.
In a release the company said the new layout is “designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience with a large mountain replica and museum-quality wildlife displays.”
The company says the big-box operation will provide more than 200 jobs.
The wildlife extended to the parking, where early arrivals were entertained by a DJ and a variety of activities and promotions.
Mayor Jim Watson was on the scene with area councillors Allan Hubley and Marianne Wilkinson.
