The Ontario Provincial Police are responding to what they say is a “firearms call” in a rural area east of Ottawa.
OPP Const. David Bird said details are scarce, but officers from the OPP’s K-9 unit as well as officers from the Emergency Response Team are responding to the call in the rural area of Alfred Concession Number 5, which is east of Ottawa and close to Hawkesbury.
“We’re responding to it as a weapons call,” said Bird of the ongoing police operation.
Road closures are in effect. OPP are advising the public to avoid travelling to and from the area until further notice.
Bird could not say if there were any reports of gun shots fired or if anyone had been shot.
“There are no lockdowns and no evacuations taking place at this moment,” Bird said. “Everything is about public safety at this point.”
More to come.
