Police are investigating after a man died after a shooting early Saturday morning on Elmira Drive, near Iris Street.

Ottawa paramedics said they treated a man in his 40s for two gunshot wounds at about 2 a.m. and transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name and age have not been released by police, who were at the scene on Elmira Drive between Cobden Drive and Lambeth Walk.

The area of grouped townhomes was swathed with police tape Saturday morning, stopping access to and from the 2198A-2202B block and neighbourhood green space. Police did not say if the shooting occurred in one of the homes or outside.

Police said they expected to be at that location for much of the day.

No other injuries were reported. No one had been taken into custody related to this shooting.

Elmira Drive last saw a shooting in March, when a car and house were shot, but no injuries were reported. Previously on Jan. 31, two cousins were shot in a restaurant around the corner on Cobden Road. One of the cousins succumbed to his wounds in what was then the second homicide of the year.

This marks the 12th homicide and 46th shooting of the year.

More to come.
