The Sûreté du Québec has turned over an investigation to the province’s independent investigations unit after a fatal shooting in Montebello on Thursday.
A 29-year-old man died after he was shot during a confrontation with the Sûreté, the province’s police watchdog said in a statement posted online.
“Quebec’s independent investigations unit will review the circumstances surrounding the event. No further information is currently available,” the statement said.
No description of the man or the circumstances leading up to the shooting were available, an SQ spokesperson said.
