It’s always a bad idea to drive a car over nails, but it’s a worse idea when the police are chasing you.

Gatineau police said they tried to pull over a car for a safety violation on Monday a little after midnight, but the driver took off along St. Joseph Boulevard near Mutchmore Street.

The chase continued on Highway 5 near the casino, but ended when police put a spike belt on the pavement and flattened a couple of the fleeing car’s tires.

A man and a woman ran off along Casino Boulevard, but both were caught, said police.

Police found what they described as a “significant amount of marijuana” in the car, along with an imitation gun and “other items” connected to crime.

Bradley Pearce, 25, of no fixed address, was wanted on two Canada-wide warrants for robbery. He appeared in the Court of Quebec Tuesday afternoon on charges including dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, possession of a dangerous weapon, obstruction, breach of probation, receiving stolen goods and possession of marijuana.

The woman, 19, was released on a promise to appear at a later date.
