Ottawa – The OC TranspoSafe Driving Awards were presented yesterday by Mayor Jim Watson, Steve Kanellakos, City Manager, and John Manconi, General Manager of Transportation Services to 48 OC Transpo bus operators in recognition of their distinguished safe-driving records and their commitment to providing safe and reliable service to customers.
“Your professionalism and commitment to customer service has given the City of Ottawa a reputation for safety and reliability that is second to none,” said Mayor Watson. “On behalf of my colleagues on City Council, I extend my sincere thanks to you for your commitment to excellence and safety, and to the well-being of Ottawa residents.”
These annual awards recognize bus operators who have reached career milestones in safe driving for 20 or more years. To qualify for a Safe Driving Award, bus operators must drive a bus in service for at least 1,000 collision-free hours every year, which is comparable to an Ottawa resident driving their car for a minimum of 35,000 kilometres on city streets in one year.
“I appreciate this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate your career milestones, and your significant achievements in ensuring our residents travel safely each and every day,” said Councillor Stephen Blais, Chair of the Transit Commission.
Recipients for 2015 included nine bus operators who celebrated more than 35 years of collision-free driving, and one Bus Operator who reached an impressive milestone of 44 years of collision-free driving.
“These awards are an important acknowledgement of our valued bus operators and our continuous commitment to the safety of our customers and our staff,” said John Manconi, General Manager of the Transportation Services Department. “Together, we work 24/7, 365 days a year to move this city safely and reliably.”
