An Ottawa police officer stopped a speeding vehicle that was travelling in excess of 152 kilometres per hour in a residential area early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the driver was travelling along a stretch of Ramsayville Road near Gloucester, in a 60-kph zone. The area is zoned residential and is heavily populated.

When stopped, police found that the driver only had a “Level 2” (G2) class licence, which means they are a new driver subject to several restrictions.

The driver informed police that the job they had scheduled for the day had been cancelled and they were in a rush to get home.

The driver, whose identity has not been released, received a seven-day licence suspension, their car was impounded and they could also be facing fines as high as $10,000.
