One male was arrested and multiple schools in Barrhaven were on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious person armed with a gun was reported at Mother Teresa High School.
Ottawa police tweeted at around 2:30 p.m. that people should avoid the Longsfield Drive area due to an ongoing police operation.
A spokesman said police were searching the area but had not confirmed the sighting and all schools in the area were locked down.
Witnesses at the scene saw heavily-armed police, a K-9 unit and paramedics equipped with bullet-proof vests.
A Catholic board spokeswoman referred questions to police, saying staff were dealing with dismissal and messaging to families.
