Police in Gatineau are calling on the public to assist in their investigation of a rash of automobile vandalism over the past three months.

Police say damages vary. So far they have reports of at least 50 car tires being destroyed, with other incidents of damages to windshields, wiper blades and side mirrors.

According to police, the vandalism began Aug. 8, when 20 residents in the Queen’s Park Street area reported various damages inflicted on their vehicles.

On Oct. 17, 32 more reports poured in from people living on Grand-Hunter, Beaulac and De la Cédrière streets in the Aylmer area. Vandalism that night included puncturing the tires of several vehicles.

The most recent incident occurred on Oct. 21 on rue d’Orsay in Aylmer when 20 more vehicles received various amounts of damage.

Police are asking residents to report any suspicious persons or suspicious activity. Police also advise that the majority of the cases occur at night, so residents are asked to keep their properties well lit if possible.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call Det.-Sgt. Vincent Brideau at 819 243-2345, ext 6134.
