As flu season is upon us, pharmacies and clinics in the region have begun offering free vaccinations.

Where can I go?

Free flu shots are now available at pharmacies and clinics across the province. Through the Ontario Ministry of Health website, those wishing to be vaccinated can search to find information about a few of the closest locations, their hours of operation and whether or not an appointment is necessary.

Ottawa Public Health will also host clinics over the next few weeks.

Why should I be vaccinated?

Influenza, a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes death, is rampant this time of year. Annual seasonal vaccines are the best way to protect yourself from catching it and from spreading it to others.

What about my kids?

Children six months old to four years old cannot be vaccinated at pharmacy locations; they can only receive the flu shot at a primary health care provider’s office such as a family doctor, paediatrician or a local public health unit. The vaccine can be administered to children aged five to 17 years old at a doctor’s office or at a pharmacy.
