Two people were taken to hospital after separate car collisions hours after an early snowfall began in Ottawa late Thursday afternoon.

One driver’s car rolled over on Highway 416 at Fallowfield Road, paramedics spokesman Brian Morris said.

There was no information on the person’s identity or overall condition.

In a three-car collision on Highway 417 at Woodroffe Avenue, a 20-year-old woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries to her face.

“Slippery roads are associated with the snow in many places,” the Environment Canada said in a special weather statement. “Snow will mix with or change to rain or drizzle at times in some areas, with freezing drizzle also a possibility.”

The weather agency said the snow would begin to taper off overnight.

Ottawa police, meanwhile, urged motorists to slow down and keep a safe distance from cars ahead.
