The Ottawa Police Service is investigating after a parent in the Meadowbrook area of Ottawa reported sewing needles found inside candy their child received while trick or treating on Halloween.
Police said the needles were allegedly found in individually wrapped chocolate bars.
Police are urging parents to double-check their children’s candy closely before letting them eat it, and to be aware that in wrappers may not appear to have been tampered with even if the candy inside has been altered.
Parents finding anything suspicious in their child’s candy they are asked to immediately call police and to keep the candy and wrappers.
Anyone with information on tampered candy claims is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 3566. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
