Mika Zibanejad, the first round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2011 and a fan favourite during his time here, was traded to New York over the summer— but he’s still sticking up for his former teammates.
On Monday, he posted to Instagram and Twitter a shot of himself holding a sign saying “I fight for Nicholle Anderson,” the wife of Sens goalie Craig Anderson who was just diagnosed with cancer.

“So shocking and heartbreaking, you are in my thoughts and prayers,” he said in the post. “Craig & Nicholle you are both such amazing people & together you will beat this!”
The sign is part of the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer campaign, an annual fundraiser that runs this year from October 24 to November 18.
Over the years, the campaign has raised more than $16 million to support national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research, a news release says.
Nicolle saw the photo and responded in kind.
@MikaZibanejad @CraigAnderson41 @Senators Thank you for your support Mika & Nathalie!

Craig Anderson took a brief leave from the Sens last week, but came back after the backup goalie went down with an injury and his wife urged him to return to play.
He recorded a shutout in his first game back, and won the NHL’s first star of the week.
On Tuesday night, he’ll make an emotional return to Ottawa, playing in net against Carolina.
