For entrepreneurs and established businesspeople alike, finding an ideal location for their enterprises isn’t easy – but it is possible.

Such a location would be directly connected to major highways, railways, waterways and airports. The ideal location would also have access to the fastest and more reliable broadband service, because today’s economy relies on the Internet.

Such a place would also provide fairly-priced land and accommodations for businesses and their employees alike; backed by up-to-date roads, housing, health care, and retail/educational institutions.

Fortunately, there is such an ideal location: Brockville, Ont. Located on the St. Lawrence River just northeast of where it joins Lake Ontario – and right in the midst of the famed Thousand Islands recreational area – Brockville is a resort-like home for 23,000 residents locally, and close to 100,000 people within 30 minutes’ drive.

Thanks to its strategic location on the St. Lawrence Seaway and being right on Hwy. 401 – Toronto a few hours’ drive to the west, Montreal even closer to the east – Brockville has fast access to Canada’s major urban centres, plus two cross-border bridges to the United States.

Add passenger train service by VIA Rail (and freight train service by Canadian National and Canadian Pacific), a local corporate airport and international airports less than an hour’s drive away in Ottawa and Ogdensburg, N.Y., and “Brockville is well-connected to the world,” says David Paul, the City of Brockville’s economic development director. “And all of this is bolstered by our ultra-high-speed broadband Internet service.”

Despite being close to everything on both sides of the Canada/U.S. border, Brockville is a very affordable place to work and live. “Our average housing cost is just over $200,000 for a single-family home, which is hundreds of thousand less than what people are paying in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal,” said Paul.

This same lower cost of living helps businesses set up shop here for much less than they would pay in major urban areas, aided by the City of Brockville’s pro-business support services. “This includes our Community Improvement Plan that offers tax concessions to business; no development or storm water management fees for occupants of our business and industrial parks; and serviced, environmentally audited industrial property selling for just $30,000 an acre in Canadian dollars,” Paul said.

By all metrics, Brockville is the ideal home base for businesses wanting to serve North America and the world. Find out how you can set up shop in Brockville by going to http://www.brockville.com.
