Police are looking for witnesses after a man was stabbed to death early Sunday morning, just as the rest of the city was turning their clocks back an hour for Daylight Savings Time.
Little is currently known about the victim, who was described as a man by the Major Crime unit of the Ottawa Police Service. He was stabbed at about 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of St. Laurent Boulevard and Coventry Road, near the St. Laurent Shopping Mall.
Callers alerted police to the incident. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Blood was still visible on the pavement at that intersection at 6 a.m. as police continued their investigation.
This marks the city’s 17th homicide of the year, and third stabbing of this weekend.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area this morning, with St. Laurent Boulevard closed in both directions from Ogilvie to Cyrville roads, and Coventry Road from St. Laurent Boulevard to about 1200 St. Laurent Blvd, also in both directions.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police at 613-236-1222, extension 5493. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa Police app.
