Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated U.S. president-elect Donald Trump on his stunning victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during a telephone conversation Wednesday.
Trudeau invited Trump to visit Canada “at his earliest opportunity,” according to statement from the Prime Minister’s Office late Wednesday night.
The two spoke less than 24-hours after Trump’s historic win and discussed a range of issues of “mutual interest” including “the importance of the Canada-U.S. bilateral relationship.”
Trudeau had previously said he would work with whoever won the election.
I’ve just spoken with President-elect Trump – and we agreed to meet soon to keep building the Canada-US relationship.
