Fire destroys student residence under construction in Pembroke

Fire officials continue to search for the cause of a dramatic Thursday morning fire that gutted the top floors of a students’ residence in Pembroke, about 150 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.

Firefighters responded to the call before 6 a.m. and found the Lake Street complex engulfed in flames.

The building, near the Ottawa River community’s Pembroke Memorial Centre, was under construction.

Responders called in three more alarms before the fire was declared under control near noon.

There were no injuries and no immediate dollar estimate of the damages.
