Smiths Falls police are investigating an incident involving a trespasser and a Via Rail passenger train Wednesday evening.

Via train 646 from Toronto to Ottawa was halted in the early evening, and passengers received a notice at 8:40 p.m. advising them of a two- to three-hour delay due to “a police investigation beyond Via’s control.”

“Train 646 is currently stopped just outside Smiths Falls involving a trespasser incident,” said Via Rail spokeswoman Mariam Diaby. “An investigation is currently going involving the police and emergency services.”

“We are waiting for the coroner,” a Via Rail employee announced over the intercom, according to one passenger.
