A fog advisory has been issued for Ottawa and much of eastern Ontario Tuesday night, with “near zero visibility” expected in some areas, Environment Canada said.
Dense fog was expected to persist through the evening and into the overnight hours before dissipating Wednesday morning, the advisory issued at 8:43 p.m. said.
The Ottawa International Airport urged travellers to check with their carriers as “poor visibility due to fog is affecting flights.”

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians were urged to take extra precautions as “visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.”
“Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop,” the advisory said.
The advisory extends south to Gananoque and Kemptville, west to Smiths Falls and Lanark County, and west to Prescott & Russell, Cornwall and Winchester.
