An off-duty Ontario Provincial Police officer arrived at his home in Pembroke on Nov. 21 to find a strange man exiting his home while carrying a purse.
When he saw the officer, the man fled. The officer pursued the man and managed to apprehend him a short distance away. A bystander called for police help and other officers arrived, arrested the man and took him into police custody.
As a result, Shawn Patrick Drummond, 40, of Laurentian Valley Township is charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.
He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until his next appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday.
