A 20-year-old man is dead and two other young people are fighting for their lives in hospital after a three-vehicle crash near Cornwall Wednesday.
Police said Kyle Quesnel, 20, was pronounced dead in hospital after three vehicles collided on County Road 2, near Purcell Road at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators said Quesnel was the passenger in a 2010 Honda Civic, with a 20-year-old male driver from South Stormont Township and a 19-year-old female passenger from Cornwall, when for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control and collided head-on with a westbound van.
All three occupants were rushed to hospital, where the driver and female passenger remained with life-threatening injuries.
A 61-year-old woman driving the westbound 2015 Dodge van, the lone occupant, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A pickup truck hauling a trailer was also involved in the crash, making “minor contact” after the initial collision, but the driver was uninjured.
A section of the road was closed for about 12 hours Wednesday while Ontario Provincial Police collision investigators assisted officers with the local detachment at the scene.
The road was re-opened at around 11:00 p.m.
Anyone with information is asked to call the detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
