The guest list for the holiday party hosted Friday by U.S. Ambassador Bruce Heyman and his wife Vicki read like a veritable who’s who of achievement as some of Canada’s most powerful figures in business, law, banking, sports, politics and military were seen arriving to the couple’s official residence in Rockcliffe Park.
Lornado was beautifully aglow thanks to all the exterior white lights, plus the high-wattage smile coming from Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris, still flying high from winning the Grey Cup with his team.
Burris, who was born in Spiro, Oklahoma, and his wife, Nicole, are regulars of the popular holiday party. So is Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella, who got one of (if not the) biggest hugs of the night from the ambassador.
Other notables glimpsed by Around Town included: Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz; Gen. Jonathan Vance and Vice-Admiral Mark Norman; leading Canadian businessman David Aisenstat from The Keg Restaurants; Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff, Katie Telford, and principal secretary, Gerald Butts; and former U.S. ambassador to Canada, Gordon Giffin.
The party, called Martinis & Mistletoe, saw the Heymans toast the season in spectacular style with as many guests as they could possibly accommodate. “I have so many friends that we have developed here, Vicki and I both,” Heyman told Around Town. “And, to be here with all of (not all of them because we couldn’t fit them all in the house) but with so many of our friends is just such a treasure for us.”
