It’s messy out there, Ottawa.

Commuters are dealing with blowing snow, vanished lane lines on slippery roads and transit delays.

The snow isn’t expected to end until noon Monday with OC Transpo warning that riders should expect delays on all bus routes due to slippery roads and city plows out to clear the white stuff. They also announced a flurry of trip cancellations while Twitter users reported instances of “slip sliding” buses. Some ended up stuck, blocking traffic.

Motorists, meanwhile, reported fender benders and cars in the ditch and a collision on the westbound Highway 417 at O’Connor Street that left the right lane and shoulder blocked for about 30 minutes.

OPP East Region summed it up on Twitter.

“Plows are out, but there was significant snow overnight,” police tweeted. “Drive carefully.Leave more distance between vehicles. SEE SNOW, GO SLOW!!”

The shouting seems justified.

More than 5 cm of snow fell overnight with more on the way but area students hoping for a long weekend were out of luck – there were no reports of snow days due to cancelled school buses.
