Police were asking motorists to stay clear of the area just south of Bank Street and Albion Road Friday morning after a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m.

The pedestrian, who early reports said was a man in his 50s who’d been thrown by the impact and suffered head injuries, was taken to the local trauma centre.

Police were directing traffic at the scene.

Meanwhile, Ottawa fire hazardous materials specialists were called to a crash scene on Cleary Avenue and Richmond Road in which a large quantity of diesel oil was spilled into the street.

There were no injuries, but motorists are advised to avoid the area.
