Outdoor enthusiasts keen to strap on their cross-country skis or snowshoes can rejoice because the Gatineau Park trails officially open Saturday.
Also, in response to the popularity of snow biking, the National Capital Commission has designated trails for winter bikes, also known as “fat bikes”, as part of a pilot project. In addition to sharing snowshoe trails 64, 65, 66 and 67, snow biking will also be allowed on trails 70, 71 and 72.
The public has access to 200 km of ski trails, 60 km of snowshoe trails and 10 kilometres of hiking trails, winding through the park’s forests and along frozen lakes and river valleys. In addition, there are also 10 day-use shelters.
Up-to-date ski and snowshoe conditions can be found by visiting the Gatineau Park website, updated twice daily.
