Ottawa firefighters responded to several 911 calls early Friday reporting smoke from a furnace at 357 Hedley Way in Kanata.
Crews arrived at 3:43 a.m. to find heavy smoke and a rapidly expanding fire in the basement of the home.
Residents were cleared out of the building and firefighters launched into an aggressive attack on the blaze, calling in a second alarm.
One firefighter was injured while attempting to extinguish the flames.
Paramedics on the scene assessed the responder and determined the injury was not serious.
There were no other injuries.
Crews remain at the scene of fire this morning.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. No estimate of damages is available.
