The year 2016 is going out the same way it arrived in Ottawa: On a bed of freshly laid snow.
Five to 10 cm are forecast for Saturday, largely in the afternoon, with the temperature climbing from a low of -16 C at dawn to a more sufferable high of -5 C.
Friday, meanwhile, will serve as little more than an unmemorable stopgap between Thursday’s and Saturday’s snowfalls, with scattered morning flurries, cloudy skies and steadily dropping temperatures, from -3 C at 8 a.m. (the wind chill making it feel like -9) to -13 C nearer to the midnight witching hour (wind chill rating of about -20).
Expect gusts from the wind factory out west of up to 50 km/h.
The beginning of Canada’s sesquicentennial on Sunday is expected to bring some sun, some cloud, a chance of a light smattering of snow, and a high of 2 C.
