Ottawa firefighters mounted a rescue operation in Manotick Saturday morning after a resident reported seeing snowmobile tracks leading to a hole in the partially-frozen Rideau River.
Firefighters rushed to the scene north of Hurst Marina on River Road, and found that a snowmobile had gone through the thin ice.
Several witnesses, however, reported that the driver did not go into the water with his machine, and the emergency crews cleared the scene.
