A man accused of murder in a dispute on New Year’s Eve appeared in court Tuesday.

Timothée Fournier, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Erik Dugas.

The 48-year-old man was found dead in a home at 265 Rue du Parc Saturday around 2 p.m. in the small community east of Gatineau on Highway 148 along the Ottawa River.

The Sûreté du Québec were initially called to the home for a suspicious death. Police arrested Fournier later that evening.

A woman who answered the door on Monday would not comment.

A neighbour, who would not give his name, said it was a quiet street but complained of cars coming and going from the house at all hours of the day and night.

Police went door-to-door to the dozen houses on the street after the homicide, the neighbour said, speaking in French. He did not know the man killed.

There was no word on a possible motive, but the Sûreté du Québec said Fournier and Dugas knew each other.
