A norovirus outbreak at Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital is over say hospital officials, who terminated the outbreak status on Thursday.

The outbreak began on Dec. 28 and the last patient was identified on Dec. 31. In all, six patients were affected.

Norovirus symptoms can last between 24 and 60 hours and include diarrhea, nausea and vomiting and sometimes stomach pain or cramps, mild fever or muscle aches. Patients are considered contagious 48
hours after symptoms disappear.

On Dec. 30, the hospital has closed part of its in-patient unit and warned away visitors, although those needing emergency care were told they should still come to the hospital’s emergency department. Another portion of the inpatient-unit remained accessible for patients who did not have symptoms.

No other areas of the hospital were affected.
