This is kind of impressive.

Last night, it seems someone (or two people?) meticulously walked out a pattern in the snow on the Rideau Canal, stretching almost all the way from the Laurier Avenue bridge to the big bend past the uOttawa campus.

Is it a secret code signalling something to aliens? We can’t rule anything out.

The image was first posted on Twitter by Ryan McGarry, who says he took it around 8:15 this morning.

Our photographer dropped by later in the morning as well.

But don’t be a copycat: You shouldn’t go on the canal until the NCC says the ice is thick enough to be safe. We’re still not at that point yet.

Do not venture onto the #RideauCanal surface! The ice is not ready even if you see workers. #ottnews https://t.co/eSjaNicUlz pic.twitter.com/IVotg4paqq
