Police came to the rescue of Louis, a one-year-old puppy, after he got stuck in a hole in the ice of the Gatineau River, in the Wakefield area days before Christmas.
The puppy was found head above water after falling through the ice some 100 metres away from its owners’ home, MRC des Collines police said Friday in a written statement.
Two officers equipped with life jackets used a canoe tied to a rope to reach the dog, who had been in the water for at least 45 minutes when they responded to the call around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2016,
Once onboard the canoe, the puppy was safely brought back to shore by another officer who was pulling on the rope.
Louis was quickly brought indoors where he was treated in the warmth of his own home.
