You see it all the time, especially in the winter: a bad crash has closed down a section of the 401, and your travel plans are wrecked.
A new Discovery show focuses on who’s working to get that crash cleared up, from first responders to tow operators to the Ministry of Transportation control centre staff.
The second episode of Heavy Rescue: 401 airs tonight.

The show is produced by the same people who made Highway Thru Hell, which focuses on rescues in B.C.’s interior. This one mostly focuses on the 400-series highways around the Greater Toronto Area, but does stretch out to other cities.
The London Free Press talked to a tow operator who was followed for the show, Sarnia-based Gary Vandenheuvel. He told the paper it was nice to get a chance to show his profession in a positive way.
“When they came to us, that was a big thing to us — that they want to portray our industry in a good light,” he said. “We don’t always get shown in a good light.”
