Thunder Bay electro-pop artist Coleman Hell, rocker David Usher and soulful singer Scott Helman are among the Canadian artists performing outdoor shows at Winterlude next month.
Ottawa-Gatineau’s annual winter celebration runs from Feb. 3-20 in various locations.
Winterlude activities will include North America’s first dragon boat race on ice, which will take place on the Rideau Canal Skateway. On the Gatineau side of the river, Jacques-Cartier Park will host a playground of winter activities, including a zipline, five super slides, a giant Canada 150 maze and the National Snow Sculpture Rendezvous.
The official 39th edition of Winterlude program was unveiled Thursday in a joint announcement at the Canadian Museum of Nature by Mayor Jim Watson, Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin and Gatineau MP Steven MacKinnon, speaking on behalf of Canadian Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly.
One highlight of the festivities will be the Sub Zero concert series, which takes place Friday and Saturday evenings in the Crystal Garden in Confederation Park. The kickoff celebration on Feb. 3 features Coleman Hell, a DJ set by Karim Ouellet and a laser show. For the first time there will be a grande finale concert, too, wrapping up the series on Feb. 19.
Winterlude activities will also take place at Ottawa City Hall and Lansdowne Park.
More details to come.
