Nominations are now being accepted for the Bruce Timmermans Cycling Awards. If you know a cycling activist or group that has made a significant contribution to cycling in Ottawa, then you have until February 19 to submit a nomination.
Bruce Timmermans was a long-time cycling educator and advocate. An active member of the Ottawa Bicycle Club and a founding member of Citizens for Safe Cycling, he worked tirelessly to promote cycling and safety for cyclists. Since 1999 the City has presented awards in his honour to local cycling advocates.
Application forms are available online.
Individual award
The individual award goes to an exemplary Ottawa resident who proactively and publicly promotes the benefits of cycling as a principal mode of transportation. This may include, but is not limited to, leading by example, advocating for cycling and supportive facilities, teaching cycling skills, and encouraging others to start cycling.
Organizational award
The organizational award recognizes the exemplary contributions or investments of a business, organization, government or other entity that promotes the benefits of cycling as a principal mode of transportation. This may include, but is not limited to, leading by example, advocating for or providing cycling and supportive facilities, and encouraging employees or clients to start cycling.
A selection committee reviews all nominations, but reserves the right not to issue an annual award if a suitable candidate cannot be found.
