Have you heard? Better hearing has just been made easier.

The latest breakthrough in hearing aid technology means that users will never have to worry about changing batteries again. The new Phonak Audéo B-R hearing aids were designed to use built-in rechargeable batteries that last a full 24 hours between charges, with only a three-hour complete charging time.

“This is one of the most exciting products we have seen in years,” says audiologist Robbie Davidson, of Davidson Hearing Aid Centres, Canada’s oldest independent hearing aid clinic. “We were originally excited for this product to make life easier for those with visual impairment and manual dexterity issues, but we have been overwhelmed by how much everyone who has tried these hearing aids have benefited from this rechargeable technology.”

Retired Senator Michael Kirby agrees. Six months ago, he started wearing the Phonak Audéo B-R and says that after six years of wearing regular hearing aids, he is very pleased that he no longer has to replace batteries.

“The beauty of the new hearing aids – the big difference in convenience – is that you recharge them at night, as you do your cellphone or iPad, and they run for nearly 24 hours. You never have to worry that they are going to die on you at an awkward moment, in the middle of a meeting or a round of golf.”

The idea of better hearing made easier doesn’t end with the trouble-free rechargeable batteries. Davidson points out that the Phonak Audéo B-R comes with a technology upgrade that offers improved hearing as well. “These new hearing aids have an updated computer chip, which further improves how they automatically adjust for different listening environments,” he says.

These new hearing aids sense your environment and adjust themselves automatically as you move through life. Analyzing your environment multiple times a second, Phonak Audéo B-R knows if you are at a noisy restaurant, outside enjoying nature, driving in a car, or sitting at home with family. All the while, they are blending their features and programs to create over 200 distinct settings to maximize your hearing in each environment. Users of these new products no longer need to push a button to hear better in noisy environments, these hearing aids are doing it for them – even better!

“Certainly there has been an improvement on the audio side as well as the energy side,” says Kirby, who still serves on a number of corporate boards and is heavily involved in mental health issues. “But, while the improvement in sound is very important, it is not as critical as the convenience side if you are a busy person.”

Being a third-generation, family-owned company – soon to celebrate its 75th year in business – Davidson Hearing Aid Centres is becoming the exception rather than the rule in its ability to work with all hearing aid manufacturers. They pride themselves on being able to take care of all hearing health care needs with the widest variety of products and the area’s best service. Not to mention their knowledgeable team of hearing health care professionals, who are dedicated to truly providing customer-centred practice. With the ever-growing corporate chains who are primarily focused on their own product lines, greatly limiting product selection, Davidson explains why they value having access to all manufacturers. “Everybody makes a good product, but not everybody makes the best product for each specific person. We often have to try one or two different products to make sure we get the best result for every individual. This allows us to ensure that they truly have the best solution for their needs rather than the best we can do with the first product. It can make a huge difference.”

They are also eagerly awaiting the launch of the new Siemens/Signia rechargeable hearing aids, that have their own version of a built-in rechargeable battery later this month. It will be the second such model in the world, and once again provides choices for those who value a rechargeable option.

To get a firsthand look and feel of these new products, Davidson Hearing Aid Centres is offering in-office demonstrations of the Phonak Audéo B-R and the new Signia Cellion Primax hearing aids once they arrive. For clients interested in trying this new technology, demonstrations are available by appointment at all seven of their locations. Offering free hearing tests and a 90-day trial period on all hearing aid purchases, with no return fees – there has never been an easier time to try out the revolutionary Phonak Audéo B-R.
