An Ottawa man is facing child pornography charges after U.S. Homeland Security officials tipped off local police about videos allegedly found on his phone as he tried to fly to Chicago.
The Ottawa police internet child exploitation unit was alerted by U.S. Customs Border Protection at the Ottawa airport Wednesday.
The city resident was denied entry to the U.S. because of videos suspected to be child pornography found on his cellphone during a secondary search.
Ottawa police investigators said the videos meet the legal definition of child pornography and are now preparing a search warrant to do a forensic examination of the devices seized at the Ottawa airport.
Abdul Rahim, 41, is charged with possessing and distributing, by attempting to export, child pornography.
He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
