Donald Trump’s comments about the Royal Family could lead to some seriously awkward silences during his state visit to Britain this year.
The president is due to be received at Buckingham Palace after accepting an invitation from Theresa May.
But given what he’s said previously about the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Diana, he might not be first on the Queen’s dream dinner party guest list.
More than a million people have signed a petition calling on the government to take back the invite to avoid ‘causing embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.’
This tweet, for example, could make a family photograph tricky:
Referring to photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge taken with a long lens, published in a French magazine but not by the UK press, he said: ‘Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!’
A lawyer for the royals described the photos as a ‘grotesque breach of privacy’ and six defendants now face a criminal trial in France.
Trump has also talked about Princess Diana, mother of Prince William and Prince Harry.
Days after she died in a car crash, President Trump said on the radio that he could have slept with her.
Howard Stern asked him: ‘Why do people think it’s egotistical of you to say you could’ve gotten with Lady Di? You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her.’
‘I think I could have,’ Trump replied.

On the same radio show three years later, he referred to Lady Diana as ‘crazy, but these are minor details’, again saying he would have slept with her ‘without even hesitation’.
