Members of the media are invited to a conversation focused on building inclusive communities through the empowerment of women and girls at City Hall tomorrow to mark International Development Week. The event is co-hosted by the City of Ottawa, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and Global Affairs Canada.

The event will feature opening remarks from the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, Clark Somerville, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Tim Tierney, City Councillor for Beacon Hill-Cyrville Ward. A panel discussion by leading experts and change agents will follow, as well as a question-and-answer period.

Date: Thursday, February 9, 2017

Time: 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Location: Council Chambers, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West

The event will be webcast and streamed on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities website.

Audience members and those watching the webcast can post questions via Twitter, using the hashtag #FCMchat or #ParlonsFCM.

International Development Week: from February 5-11, 2017, Global Affairs Canada, development partners across the country, and Canadians around the world celebrate our contributions to reducing poverty in the developing world. This year’s theme “Leave No One Behind: Canada Contributes to Global Goals!” recognizes our collective efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals laid out in the United Nations’ Agenda 2030.
