The City’s Community and Protective Services Committee received today a quarterly update on the new Vehicle-for-Hire By-law, which took effect on September 30, 2016.
The Committee heard that the one Private Transport Company which has become licensed under the Vehicle-for-Hire By-law, Uber Canada, has been compliant with the various requirements of the by-law in the three months following its enactment. Committee will receive another update at the six-month mark.
The Committee also approved a motion proposing that the City ask the Government of Canada to increase Ottawa’s housing funding to $200 million, under the Investing in Affordable Housing Program.
The Committee approved two commemorative naming proposals to recognize the outstanding community service of two Stittsville residents by naming parks in their honour. The Bell Memorial Park at 1751 Stittsville Main Street will be renamed “W.J. Bell Rotary Peace Park,” and a future park at 5970 Fernbank Road will be named “Silas Bradley Park” if City Council concurs.
The Committee also approved the sale of a piece of land in the Skyline neighbourhood of Nepean to Nelson House, an adjacent property owner that operates a not-for-profit, privately run group home. The land sale would allow the organization to proceed with its plan for a new building that better meets the needs of its clients.
Reports for items approved by the Committee will go to City Council on Wednesday, February 22.
