If you’re coming downtown for Red Bull Crashed Ice, then why not come a little early and stay a little late so you can make the most of your downtown Ottawa visit? Here are six things to do before or after your Red Bull Crashed Ice experience.
1. Get something to eat
This is kind of a no-brainer. There are world class local eateries and popular chain restaurants spread throughout the downtown core, especially along Elgin Street and in the ByWard Market. You can have a full meal or stop for a snack. And then another. And then another. Whatever you do, please remember to drink responsibly and make sure you have a plan to get home safely after your night out.
2. Visit City Hall
It’s not just for paying tickets anymore. The Karsh-Masson Gallery and Barbara Ann Scott Gallery are located in the main building while the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in the Heritage Building. All are free admission and open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
3. Visit a Gallery
In addition to the galleries at City Hall, art lovers can explore other intimate galleries in the ByWard Market, not to mention the National Gallery of Canada, right next to Major’s Hill Park.
4. Go to a museum
We are proud to say that downtown Ottawa boasts four world class national museums within walking distance of the Red Bull Crashed Ice site: The Canadian War Museum, the National Gallery of Canada, the Museum of Nature and the Museum of History. Technically, the last one is in Gatineau, just across the river.
5. Do some shopping
As if you need an excuse to go shopping. Downtown Ottawa has something for everyone. Chain stores that have all the familiar products you need, and a plethora of specialty shops to offer you a unique shopping excursion. Check out the major mall atmosphere of the Rideau Centre and the boutique experience of the ByWard Market.
6. Go skating
Unfortunately, the world’s largest skating rink is closed for the season. But, the Sens Rink of Dreams at City Hall is still open and offers, arguably, the best outdoor ice in the City. You can also get a BeaverTail after you skate. Or before you skate.
