Ottawa pulled out all the stops today in what was our last chance to show the 2021 Canada Summer Games Bid Evaluation Committee that Canada’s Games belong in Canada’s capital.

Thunderous applause and chanting greeted the 12-member Bid Evaluation Committee as they entered City Hall earlier today for the start of their daylong tour of the facilities and venues that are part of Ottawa’s bid to host the Summer Games in 2021.

They were joined by Mayor Jim Watson, members of City Council, and members of the Ottawa 2021 Bid Committee, including Co-chairs Cyril Leeder and Sue Holloway.

The whirlwind tour included stops at several facilities and venues including:

The Canada Games Council will now evaluate Ottawa’s bid against other cities including Greater Sudbury, Niagara Region and a partnership between Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. An announcement of the successful bid is expected at the end of March 2017.

The Canada Games are this country’s largest multi-sport event for the next generation of national team athletes and represent the pinnacle of interprovincial/territorial sport competition. It would be the biggest sporting event ever hosted in Ottawa.
