Innovations in Personalized Medicine
Diseases such as cancer are complex, and for most of us, it goes without saying they remain very frightening. The reality, however, is that technology and treatment advances are moving forward at a tremendous pace. Scientists and health professionals are making strides that provide hope like never before. And that includes fields in which Ottawa is a world-leader. Wesley Clover is pleased to share more of this encouraging story at our April 4th TechTuesday.
Scientists and clinicians here in Ottawa are conducting world-class research, designing new therapies, working hard to bring more discoveries and programs from bench to bedside. Discoveries that save or extend the lives of our family members, friends and neighbours. Programs that put the patient and the family at the center of the care.
Join guest speaker Peter Charbonneau, accomplished local tech executive and board member, as he shares his inspiring personal healthcare journey and speaks to the advances he was able to benefit from. Peter will be joined by Linda Eagen, President and CEO of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, who will speak to the other ‘innovation’ in health-care – patient-centered information, decision-making and ownership.
Five years ago, the Cancer Foundation developed a new program, the first in Canada, called Cancer Coaching, that engages patients, families and caregivers as partners in personalized treatment. Today these world-leading services are humanizing the local healthcare experience, keeping patients out of our emergency wards and reducing the overall costs of our care.
People are increasingly touched, directly or indirectly, by these diseases. But survival rates keep rising. Join us to hear first-hand, more of the good-news side of the story …
