A 20-year-old Ottawa man faces charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and child luring after a 14-year-old girl met with a man who had befriended her on social media.
Ottawa Police say its sexual assault and child abuse section opened the investigation after the girl reported that she had been contacted by a man on social media and was sexually assaulted after they agreed to meet. Investigators received the girl’s report on Sept. 18, 2016.
Brendon Wayne Spurell, 20, was charged on Wednesday and was to appear in court Thursday morning.
Police say investigators are concerned there could be other victims of a man who used a number of aliases, including Eric Galloway and Zane O’Connor. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sexual assault and child abuse unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
