A portion of the Rideau Centre was evacuated Friday afternoon after a carbon monoxide detector indicated high levels of the potentially deadly gas.
Firefighters who responded to the alarm confirmed the high readings, Ottawa police said.
Ottawa police, paramedics and firefighters assisted by Rideau Centre security staff helped in the evacuation, which began around 1 p.m. and reportedly involved a small area of the first floor on the Rideau Street side.
There were no reported injuries.
Crews were venting the area with large electric fans in addition to the centre’s ventilation system.
The provincial ministry of labour has been called.
The emergency was declared under control at about 1:30 p.m., but investigators remained on the scene.
