Regardless of which region they represent, there’s a strict living requirement for the nine Supreme Court of Canada judges. The Supreme Court Act provides that three of the nine judges are appointed from Quebec. Traditionally, three are appointed from Ontario, two from the West and one from the Atlantic provinces. All, however, are required to live within 40 km of the National Capital Region.
