First comes the April showers with a special weather statement from Environment Canada predicting up to 50 mm from Thursday into Friday.
But then comes the sun and balmy forecast highs for next week.
The weather agency predicts that “significant” rainfall is on the way beginning early Thursday morning thanks to a low-pressure system from the American Midwest. Expect 20 to 30 mm by late Thursday with more Thursday evening before it tapers off Friday.
“On the bright side, a dramatic change to spring-like warmth is likely beginning on the weekend,” Environment Canada consoled soggy Ottawans.
For Wednesday, expect periods of rain to end in the morning then a mix of sun and cloud, a high of 10 C and a UV index of 5 or moderate. For evening, winds are forecast to become east at 20 km/h gusting to 40 with a low of 3 C.
The City of Ottawa warned commuters of a few traffic snarls Wednesday morning, including a lane reduction on southbound at Laurier Avenue due to a disabled vehicle and traffic signals out on Hwy. 174 at Cameron.
Another reminder: the Hogs Back Bridge will be closed for repairs from Wednesday morning until April 13.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority warns that flooding of low-lying areas is likely as rain raises the Rideau River.
First to be affected will be the Long Reach of the Rideau between Kars and Kemptville and, within central Ottawa, the end of Belmont Avenue and Rideau River Drive.
The authority expected peak water flows on Saturday of more than 450 cubic metres per second measured at Carleton University. The historical average flow at the Carleton gauge is 320 cubic metres per second.
